2007: The Year of the Rat-tail (pt. 1)

Recently, we here at S.L.C. Pomp have been working on updating our up-dos! Something that never goes out of style is healthy hair--so Cait sacrificed an inch of her long, lovely locks to annual split-end removal, while Frances decided to rock the unstyled mohawk. Each seems to be growing into it quite comfortably. And what’s healthier than a mullet? We’ve noted a growing number of styled mullets moving along Main Street, and appreciate the satire. Here are our other picks for 2007 trends:

Both Cait and Frances see this as the year of the dress--so go pick up yours at the local D.I. Recently, the downtown location (5th South & Maine) has had a spectacular array of options to fill your closets. Also in abundance at the D.I.: oversized flannel shirts in various prints that are a great addition to any wardrobe.

We’ve found a new love in public transport. You may see us on TRAX in our hunt for street style. As horrifying as it sounds, UTA is cemented in our two hearts, and doesn’t seem to be dislodging anytime soon. We’re not the only ones. Several of the photos on our site are from downtown TRAX stops and the University line. Clearly, fashionable 20-somethings have the same idea.

S.L.C. Pomp throws its votes to the downtown library branch as the most style-oriented place to be this year, from people checking out local music CDS to library employees . Come on out in your finest and promenade through the front revolving doors. We all love being intellectual.

Finally, if you're thirsty during your travels, it's our pleasure to suggest the Beehive Tea Room (12 West & 300 South), our main haunt when our fingers begin to freeze after roaming the chilly city streets. Its adorable interior design complements any clothing style from mohawks to pantyhose. The hot chocolate is amazing—Frances recommends the American, Cait the European. The tea ain’t bad either.

Take this into account as you head out of the house. We’ll be adding more recommendations later. Feel free to leave your feedback. Don’t forget to peruse past entries and check for upcoming posts!
