Frances Goes Multicultural

Yes, yes. We're back. And boy, oh boy, did we miss you all. This weekend, while Cait explored the shopping in Dallas, Frances attended a themed party. Each person was asked to dress up as the ethnicity they would be if they could be anything. Here are photos from that event. You may notice some startling similarities to past people in entries. That's because several have been featured here before. The previously photographed Marcela hosted the party. Ah, the small world of S.L.C. pomp.

The story: The party hostess solicited Frances' help to paint a Taj Mahal mural on butcher paper to hang on the wall. Doesn't it look good? It was then used as a backdrop for taking party pictures of people as they walked through the front door. Below are a few of them.

Lauren
Party name: Nick "Extra Feta" Souvlaki.
The story: Nick's father owns Apollo Burgers so Nick's rolling in dough.
Costume:
Apollo Burgers Hat + Soda Cup
Blue cardigan sweater
Navy apron
Fake money that Lauren tossed at other guests.

Maria:
Party Name: Mario "Extra Pepperoni" Spaghetti
Costume:

Pepperoni pizza
Pellegrino water
Dried pasta, wooden spoon
Italian flag + pasta apron
Red newsie cap
Italian pin
Crimson sweater

Thomas
Costume:

Our Lady of Guadalupe tshirt
Tecate glass bottle
Temporary tattoos

dear friend (/chris a.?)
yes, we know. it is, in fact, quite offensive. we believe that was part of marcela's plan--to push the boundaries of political correctness. they decided to do something intense, and we posted it here.

tonight: a capricorn corporation stock exchange party in which cait and i are only allowed to come as interns because we were not born in january. we intend to nab some pictures there as well.

What I found was, if someone doesn't know very much about a culture instead of it being an opportunity to learn it becomes a time when people use stereotypes, unfortunately. That was not my intent.
